What are the elements of a perfect pitch? How do you win the war for talent? How do you establish a brand without bucks? These are some of the issues everyone faces when starting or revitalizing any undertaking, and Guy Kawasaki, former marketing maven of Apple Computer, provides the answers. The Art of the Start will give you the essential steps to launch great products, services, and companies—whether you are dreaming of starting the next Microsoft or a not-for-profit that’s going to change the world. It also shows managers how to unleash entrepreneurial thinking at established companies, helping them foster the pluck and creativity that their businesses need to stay ahead of the pack. Kawasaki provides readers with GIST—Great Ideas for Starting Things—including his field-tested insider’s techniques for bootstrapping, branding, networking, recruiting, pitching, rainmaking, and, most important in this fickle consumer climate, building buzz. At Apple, Kawasaki helped turn ordinary customers into fanatics. As founder and CEO of Garage Technology Ventures, he has tested his iconoclastic ideas on real- world start- ups. And as an irrepressible columnist for Forbes, he has honed his best thinking about The Art of the Start. | | | Features: | |

Kindle edition more expensive than the hardcover? WTFJul 28, 2010 wtf? Why is the Kindle electronic edition (with no physical delivery) more expensive than ANY OTHER form of this book? More expensive than the audio, paperback and even hardcover? Are they trying to get rid of the old paper stuff? I would have bought this one but now won't as I would feel like even more than the sucker I usually am, buying things on impulse with the little BUY NOW button.
Good book for anyone thinking of starting up a companyJul 16, 2010 This is a great book for anyone thinking about starting a company or even working in a skunk-works environment within an existing company.
I'm holding back from giving the book 5 stars because I would have liked to see more discussion about boot-strapping. This section was good, but a little too light on detail.
Good, solid advice on starting a businessJun 14, 2010 A very solid effort for anyone interested in starting a small business. Such wisdom and what time-saving advice. This book says it's a guide for starting "anything", I'm not quite sure why he felt it necessary to give that illusion. It's how to start a business. So, I'm sure this book is worth your effort if you are interested in starting a business and hope for even bigger things in the future.
Start it.May 28, 2010 Great book. Practical and accessible, yet still didactic...full of info. Start this book. And before you finish it you'll be inspired to start something else.
Best book ever!May 15, 2010 If I shall have one book only to be successful and achieve anything, it would be this one.
It's not a purchase, it's an investment!
