Comfortable for long periods of useMar 24, 2009
By E. Teltschik I've owned and used a Mirage headset for over a decade. Other than the cable simply wearing out through use and abuse, I've had no problems. I originally got this when I was spending 6-8 hours a day on the phone. This was the unit recommended to me, and I found it to be exactly as described. It's comfortable enough that I find myself wearing it for hours on end, even when I'm not on the phone anymore. I've never had problems with volume or clarity, nor have others on the other end.
As with most professional headsets, this uses a special plug, so you can't connect it with just any phone. Most phones will require the use of an adapter cable or an amplifier. The plug allows you to disconnect the headset (say to get something off the printer or fax machine) without disconnecting the call - it's the equivalent of putting the phone on mute. While this may not seem like much, it's much more convenient than taking the headset off and then putting it back on.
It works well with any of the Plantronics amplifiers, but its even more convenient if you find the phone-specific cord that allows you to connect it directly to the phone without an amplifier. On the Avaya phones at work, they have a separate jack and button on the phone for a headset which makes this headset fully integrated.
If you spend a lot of time on the phone, this is one investment well worth it.

Good, but not the best for all day useJul 25, 2007
By Chris This professional headset is way better than anything offered for cell and home phone use, but be aware that it uses a different interface and requires a control unit to connect it to your phone.
These look trick, and with the Plantronics interface you can get the volume right so that isn't a problem, but they just don't provide as reliable a speaker to ear connection as the head band types. I could never get the ear piece to sit in the right place on my big old ears and eventually went back to the head band type.
If you have long or 'big' hair or can't stand to have anything over your head then this may be for you. If not then maybe a different Plantronics headset will fit your needs.
Just what we needed!Sep 12, 2011
By Glo We tried to purchase this item locally, and were steered by a rep towards a more expensive product. Our business manager found the item we wanted at 1/3 the price we would have paid otherwise, without the hard-sell tactics! Thanks you for being a purchaser's best friend!

By Robert Michon My last one was a noise-cancelling Mirage, but the earpiece does take some getting used to.
If I wasn't so lazy, I'd return it and get the noise-cancelling mic version, which has MUCH better sound quality. It's surprising how much effect the voice tube mic has on the incoming audio quality.
This one has a "down the corridor" quality to it, which takes some getting used to.
This will get the job done, as long as you're not really picky about sound quality.
If you are, get the noise-cancelling version.
