5Phone is a LIFE SAVER!!!Jan 13, 2011
By Sparkles1539
Bought three (3) phones for Christmas gifts; dad, in-laws and uncle which are all hard of hearing. This phone has made a remarkable difference in our conversations. No more "shouting" from my end of the phone and no more "I can't hear you" from their end of the phone! Whoo-hoo!!! The only negative is lightening struck my in-laws phone a few days after they got it so I had to order another one just like it! Be soooo glad when it arrives!

I highly recommend this phone....it is a jewel for those who are hard of hearing.

5GE Amplified phone really helps hearingApr 15, 2010

This phone changed conversations from unpleasant to pleasant.
We interchange between the speaker phone and the normal hand set
depending on our preference. Both work very well.
We used the amplify button for soft voices, but some voices are even loud enough without it. We love the phone.

1speaker phone volume so low it was barely audible!Jun 19, 2011

I was very displeased with this phone, purchased ONLY for the supposedly "EXTRA LOUD, AMPLIFIED speaker phone volume as well as handset volume. Speaker phone volume was barely audible from 6" away for a non-hearing impaired person...impossible to hear anything from it at all for my hearing impaired father. Headset volume like any other phone....NOT amplified in the least. Useless, therefore, for our purposes.

I will give the seller credit though in that they made the return process easy and promptly credited back to me my entire purchase price plus shipping charges.

5phone for sight impairedMay 24, 2011
By R. Crouch "don't become roadkill on the Information Superhighway"
After trying three other phones from different manufacturers, I stumbled upon this GE model. The buttons are large but so were those on the other models. The speaker is loud but so were the other models. This phone was unique in that it can be permanently set in amplified setting while all others I tried had to be manually set on each incoming call. The most important feature is that when fumbling around the keys, my parent does not press the button to store numbers. The store feature button should be on the side, away from other buttons. Phone numbers on one model we had were constantly being overwritten by random button pressings as my parent fumbled around the keypad accidentally. Using the speakerphone feature alone allows the user to answer the phone without using the headset... using the loud speakerphone feature is better for my parent than using a receiver to one ear! There is even n external pillow speaker buzzer in case this phone is used with someone bed ridden as that might be a added help. I glued cabinet door bumpers onto the buttons to assist my parent in finding key phone button so it's now even easier to use without fumbling around the keypad! Manufacturers should take these features into consideration when designing their phones.
